Excerpt:

The article discusses the problem of digital addiction, encountered especially among young people. Towards such behaviour, morale and Christian spirituality proposes a control over the time spent in the virtual space and on the accessed contents, which is a proof of digital discernment. The Christian faith wants man to not dependent on any form of material and ephemeral pleasure, but to live spiritually free, in the Truth.

Excerpt:

The last verse of the 16th chapter from the John’s Gospelcreated the occasion of this exposition. The appeal and rare use and,to a certain extent, inappropriate to the orthodox environment, represent the element that determined me to provoke a dialoguebetween the neptic (philokalical) hermeneutics and the modernexegesis regarding the last fragment of this verse: „I have overcomethe world”.It is a fact that the Eastern Biblical Theology does not yet purpose its own method and discourse on biblical topics, being confronted internally with a certain predisposition for using the Western historical-critic method, but also with the exclusive establishment of the Systematic Theology regarding the interpretation of the Holy Scripture. Therefore, the present study is trying to answer some questions regarding the overcoming and the victory over the world, by focusing on the differences of interpretation between the modern exegesis and the neptic approach of this passage.

Excerpt:

The liturgical text of the Pentecostarion offers a hermeneutic perspective on myrrh-bearing women in the context of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is a challenge for biblical scholars to discover the relationship between the biblical and the liturgical text. The two texts, biblical and liturgical, complement each other and provide the resources to discover myrrh-bearing women as the first witnesses of the empty tomb and confessors of the event of the Resurrection, through which they become like the Apostles. The liturgical text gives myrrh-bearing women several hypostases: witnesses and heralds of the Resurrection, missionaries, and disciples of the Lord. Along with the myrrh-bearing women, Joseph and Nicodemus are mentioned as witnesses to the funeral.

This study offers a brief presentation of the life and academic career of Irfan Arif Shahîd, professor of Byzantine studies at Georgetown University and Honorary Affiliate Fellow of Dumbarton Oaks. Shahîd’s scholarly interests gravitated around the history of the relations between Byzantium and the Arabs before the era of the Prophet Muhammad, and also on the entangled religious and cultural histories of the Arab Christians. This study also provides a translation of Shahîd’s study on the Arab Christianity in Byzantine Palestine, published in ARAM, 15 (2003), along with the complete list of scientific publications of the American bizantinist.

The main purpose of this research is to present and analyse the contribution of Fr. Dumitru Stăniloae to the theology of the icon. I have chosen to present his contribution in this direction because, until now, this theme has not been analysed. The main reason for this is that his main studies concerning the theology of the icon have not been translated until now in any major Western language. Therefore, it was almost impossible for the researchers even to identify the fact that Fr. Stăniloae had an important contribution in the field of the theology of the icon. Unfortunately, even in Romania, research in this area has not been undertaken. However, this does not impede serious research on the subject. The primary sources are enough to provide the material needed for research.

Slobozia Domnească Church in Bucharest is one of the oldest churches in town, being built with the dedication of Saint Dimitrie Izvorâtorul de Mir in 1665 by the prince Radu Leon Vodă on the place where the soldiers fell in the battle of August 31, 1631, next to the cross built on the stone on February 20, 1632. Due to the inclement weather and stained glass, the original church was not preserved but was resided in stone in 1743. During the communist regime, the church was saved from demolition by the worthy patriarch Justinian Marina (1948-1977). The present paper aims to highlight the role played by the Slobozia Domnească Church in Bucharest during the First World War on the basis of documents from the parish archive (1916-1920). Thus, the work is divided into two chapters: (1) The Slobozia Domnească Church during the war (1916-1918); (2) The Slobozia Domnească Church and the aftermath of the war. The 34 documents presented for the period 1916-1918 together with the 14 documents from 1919-1920 describe another image about the history of the Romanian Orthodox Church and of Romania, as presented a century ago. The correspondence described here between the Archpriest Traian Vintilescu, of the Lower Square Deanery of the Capital, with the Epitropy of the Church and the parish priest, show unusual aspects faced by the Romanian Orthodox Church during the First World War.
