The fundamental idea of this article is to demonstrate the truth that Orthodoxy, in general, and, in particular, Romanian Orthodoxy, do not have as a characteristic only small churches. This assertion has been brought to public attention in recent years in an attempt to argue the dubious opportunity to build the Cathedral of the Salvation of the Nation, given that the identity function, of unique significance, of effigy and binder, of this place-symbol of the entire Romanian Orthodoxy is clear.

The intention of this research is to recover a hermeneutic element specific to St. John the Theologian’s theology: the world in opposition to God, as well as the tension between it and the Creator, described in several clear aspects in John17. The analysis seeks to counterbalance the general emphasis in Orthodox cosmology, which describes the world, in an overwhelming proportion, only from the perspective of its cosmogenesis, of its position as creation of God, and neglects the tension between the world and God, present everywhere in the spirituality of the Eastern Church, but especially in the philocalic hermeneutics, the one that goes in the same direction as St. John the Evangelist.

From the perspective of contemporary biblical exegesis, the „mind of Christ” is not a specific Pauline anthropological challenge but appears as a rhetorically charged passage. The Christological reading of the passage from Isaiah that St. Paul makes is analysed especially, and not the reality that the Pauline phrase expresses. From the space of the philocalic tradition, in obvious contrast with the exegetical and philological preoccupations, there is a very rich experience of the direct contact with the discussed reality. For an orthodox hermeneutic, the proposed philocalic perspective is superior to the methods developed by speculative academic research, because it springs from the direct experience of divinity.
