The first Sunday of Lent is dedicated to the victory of the Orthodox faith over heresies. The Holy Fathers who met in the Ecumenical Councils between the 4th and 8th centuries established the right teaching about the deity of the Son and the Holy Spirit, as well as the true veneration of the holy icons. The pastoral letter composed by the bishops from the synod is read in every church in the Romanian Patriarchate.

In this auto-biographic article, a well-known book writer with theological content recalls a story from her life. Ileana Toma (daughter of the Rev. Alexie Bârcă), researcher at the Astronomical Observatory, meets Pantelimon Halippa, an old family acquaintance. He was none other than the Bessarabian and later Romanian journalist and politician, one of the most important promoters of Romanian nationalism in Bessarabia and of this province’s union with Romania. He was the president of Sfatul Țării(The Council of the Country), which voted union in 1918. The discussion between the two characters contains numerous historical information and data about that troubled period of Romania.
