The study presents, based on the sources, the last period of the life of Metropolitan Anthim the Iberian of Wallachia (1650-1716), his conflict with the new ruler Nicolae Mavrocordat, installed by the Turks after the murder of Ștefan Cantacuzino, a conflict that led to his arrest, imprisonment, deportation from Wallachia under guard and the murder of the hierarch in a mischievous manner, at the end of September 1716. Also presented are his unjust deposition by the Patriarchate of Constantinople, at the request of Prince Nicolae Mavrocordat, but also its lifting, in 1966, following the correspondence of Patriarch Justinian Marina. The author also explains why this sentence of deposition from the seat was null and void, according to the canonical statements of the Orthodox Church.

The Holy Hierarch Anthim Iberian is a holy hesychast and philocalic hierarch. He brought Byzantium to Wallachia and toiled to be appropriated by his believers. He sat, over the years, on the same throne of the Metropolitan Church of Wallachia, which was occupied by St. Niphon, patriarch of Constantinople and metropolitan of Wallachia. He is iconic, hesychast and philocalic like St. Simeon the New Theologian, like St. Gregory Palamas, Metropolitan of Thessalonica, like St. Callistus, patriarch of Constantinople and others. He is a philocalic hesychast in the city. He first sought the kingdom of God, found it, and all the rest was added to Him.
